Is Asbury Park Really ‘Lonesome City’?

Doug Gatta

If you ask Asbury Park singer-songwriter Doug Gatta about his home town, he’ll tell you that it’s “Lonesome City” to him. The multi-instrumentalist—who debuted with God’s Lonely Men in 2022—has now put his thoughts and feelings into “Lonesome City.” We are proud to present it below for the first time anywhere. He’s collaborated with Queens Of The Stone Age and The Bouncing Souls (from New Brunswick), and is currently working on his sophomore effort—Sic Semper Tyrannis—due later this year. His live shows are said to be “electrifying.

“The birth of the song came from the main chord progression,” explains Gatta,” and also the piano melody during the chorus. I had that and nothing else for a long time. One day I was trying to come up with a chorus hook and decided to wail the phrase `Lonesome City.’ The rest came quick. This is also the only song to feature another instrumentalist besides myself and John Cancellieri, who plays drums. Nicole Scorsone provided a beautiful string section to end the song"

You can catch Doug Gatta March 26 @ The Asbury Brewery .
