Meet… Phoneboy

The sleepy hamlet of Toms River hasn’t given the world that many pop stars but if Phoneboy has their way, stardom is only days down the road. That road starts March 24 in Asbury Park, when the energetic trio brings its power pop to House of Independents before heading south to Virginia and Washington DC, on a tour that will take them all the way to May 11 at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City, hitting Boston, Philly, Buffalo, Indianapolis, Chicago, KC, Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, Dallas, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Houston and Austin. They’re ready.

In “Ferrari,” they address the sudden intrusion of fame on their lives. The video for the song is infectious and kinetic with a palpable sense of movement (and we all know that movement is the next best thing to being free).

Wyn Barnum, Ricky Dana and James Fusco have been preparing for this their whole lives. They’re not adults yet. Their perspectives are skewed in a juvenile montage of yearning. “Ferrari” accentuates their youth having them skip through life with misplaced passion. There’s action in these grooves. Wrong choices abound as they attempt to pull off a robbery. They’ll grow up eventually. Just not yet.

Their Moving Out album is due March 24.
