Meet… Charlie & Margot

Charlie & Margot is, in actuality, one person:  Matteo DeBenedetti. He left Mount Arlington, a small town in Morris County, for the wilds of Asbury Park years ago. He records as Charlie & Margot (those are the names of his dogs). Although the album, Joyride, isn’t due until April 7, one track, “Lonely,” shows a wealth of talent. It was written, as he says, “about self-evaluation during a time of intense isolation, in this instance, during the quarantine and subsequent months. It has a lot to do with managing my insecurities, and creating a healthy perception of how I see myself versus how others see me in the world, and managing expectations between life partners while growing to try to understand each other."

His music straddles a singular singer-songwriter aesthetic, plus alt-rock, instant-classic rock, indie-rock and Americana. He lists his influences as Jason Isbell and Dr. Dog. The project was produced by friend and collaborator Erik Kase Romero, also from Asbury Park, known for his work with Lorde and The Bouncing Souls.
