Lily Vakili Goes Solo
She struts her considerable stuff fronting Montclair’s Vakili Band but singer-songwriter Lily Vakili is stepping away from the nest to do a solo tour opening for another lead singer going solo: Scotland’s John Douglas of Trashcan Sinatras.
Influenced by Patti Smith and Grace Slick, Vakili is set to bring her brand of bluster and ballsy bravado—interrupted by tender sweetness—to “Lost In North America Tour Part #1” after two shows with her own band in Lansdowne Pennsylvania September 20 and the Pie Shop in DC the following night. Five albums into her career, Vakili now says, returning to the stage as a solo artist feels like coming full circle as well as an artistic metamorphosis. Someone once told me, `just keep on, keep improving your art, keep performing, don’t isolate yourself, stay open and say YES.’” So that’s exactly what she did when this tour made itself available to her.
