Jeremy Allen White to Portray Bruce in New Movie
The Bear playing The Boss? It certainly looks that way. Deliver Me From Nowhere will be a cinematic adaptation of last year’s Warren Zanes book of the same name, sub-titled The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska. Jeremy Allen White, who stars in The Bear, starred in Shameless, and most recently played professional wrestler Kerry Von Erich in The Iron Claw, will play Bruce. As Bruce wrestles with the same depression that immobilized his dad, he deals with the international superstardom thrust upon him after the releases of Born To Run, Darkness On The Edge Of Town and The River. As he writes what would eventually be 1984’s Born In The USA, he sidetracks into a dark project, recorded alone on a simple four-track recorder in the bedroom of a rented Colts Neck house in Monmouth County.
Reportedly, Bruce and manager Jon Landau are fully behind the project. Director Scott Cooper wrote the film and will direct it in New Jersey this fall. Its title comes from a “State Trooper” line (“Hey somebody out there listen to my last prayer/Hi Ho silver-O, deliver me from nowhere).” Actor White told Amy Kuperinsky at www.nj.com that Bruce, to him, is “a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. It was exciting to know going into this thing that we had at least that in common,” adding, “I’m really lucky that there’s sort of a team of folks now in place to help young actors portray rock stars. I’ve got a really talented group helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready. I’m also really lucky Bruce is supportive so I’ve had access to him and he’s just the greatest guy. Also there’s so much footage. It’s really great to go down a YouTube rabbit hole and find him at all these different periods in his life and be able to listen to his speaking voice as well as his singing voice. That’s kind of been the deal, just listening and watching him a lot. It’s been really fun preparing.” Bruce was 33 when Nebraska came out in 1982, the same age as White today.
